About Me
Who am I and why I created this website.
Who am I and why I created this website.
Since childhood, I've been fascinated by computers, audio systems, and technology in general. Unfortunately, it's not very practical to collect all the cool - and often bulky - technological devices. Physical media, however, don't take up much space, and they still allow me to explore their fascinating origins, study how they spread, and understand the reasons behind their decline and obsolescence. Many physical media formats existed only briefly and never gained much popularity - sometimes due to poor design or performance, but often simply because of bad timing, weak marketing, or tough competition.
I found a passion in collecting physical media formats and every time I discover a new format, together with that I also learn a lot about history and methods used to record, store and retrieve information and data.
Maybe the fascinating stories behind these physical media will inspire you to join me in collecting these gems, so together we can preserve their legacy for new generations growing up in today's predominantly streaming world - many of whom have never even seen such wonderful formats.

And what is my background?
Well, I started collecting physical media in 2013, but it has never been my only hobby.
I'm also
- an enthusiastic traveler (traveled to over 40 countries),
- a wholehearted hi-fi stereo music lover (listening music from LPs, MCs, CDs, MDs and streaming),
- a relentless blogger and podcaster (covering themes of philosophy and science),
- a passionate books reader (especially those on critical thinking, philosophy, and world religions),
- a devoted sci-fi fan (unshakable Trekkie without any doubts),
- a hobbyist robot builder (autonomous mobile robots and movie robot kits),
I'm also a father of two, and we live in a small town in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, though I was born and raised in Slovakia.
I have a background in mechatronics (PhD degree) and currently work as an Industrial Computed Tomography Application Expert at the headquarters of ZEISS in Germany.

In my ManCave (basement of my house) I have a small display for my favorite media items. It's getting full very quickly.
